Many of Darmstadt’s residents still vividly remember the four hot air balloons on Georg-Büchner-Platz. In 2014 the Belgian ensemble collective Nadar performed the multimedia piece DEAD SERIOUS in front of 3,000 viewers. This year, Nadar is focusing on the personal experience of music with the project OurEars. The hosts from Darmstadt and their international Summer Course guests are invited to experience intimate listening situations in a shared apartment, an artist’s studio, a doctor’s house and an alternative cultural center. Four composers (Natasha Diels, Vladimir Gorlinsky, Cathy van Eck, Martin Schüttler) will be curating site-specific music for each of these spaces. On two of the performance days (July 23 and 24, 2018) several performances will take place at the same time in the afternoons, each for just a few listeners. In the evening all of the musicians and visitors will come together for a final concert held at Centralstation, where pieces by Stefan Prins, Joanna Bailie and Louis d’Heudieres will address the transitions between urban and concert space, inside and outside, listening and seeing as well as the translation of something heard into language. Following the concert there will be an opportunity to talk about the various listening experiences over a drink and get to know the musicians on the Centralstation forecourt.
For the evening concert at Centralstation, tickets can be purchased here from 6 July 2018 at 16,45 €.
For the piece by Stefan Prins we ask the audience to download an audio file on their smartphone or mp3 player and to bring headphones. If this is not possible, we can provide a small amount of mp3 players at the entrance of Centralstation.
Admission for the private concerts is free, but they are for a limited audience only and a reservation (firstname.lastname@example.org) is required. Depending on availability, we will try to consider requests for a special project or a certain time. We will confirm date and time, the detailed address will be announced at least two days in advance.
From 13.00, there will be an info point at Centralstation, located directly next to the Luisenplatz transport hub.
Summer Course participants do NOT reserve for this project. They will receive an invitation card at the check-in.
Reservation holders and Summer Course participants will not be able to attend more than one or two private concerts.
