Born in 1965. Christian Dierstein studied with Bernhard Wulff in Freiburg/Germany, with Gaston Sylvestre in Paris and with Vassilis Papadopulus in Mannheim/Germany. He is the winner of numerous competitions and received scholarships from the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes and the Akademie Schloss Solitude Stuttgart/Germany. Since 1988, he is percussionist of the ensemble recherche and since 1994, he is member of Trio Accanto together with Nicolas Hodges and Marcus Weiss.
In addition to his performances of new music, he has focused on non-European music and free improvisation. During the season 2010/11 he was one of the “Rising Stars” from the European Concert Hall Organisation. As soloist, he performs with many orchestras all around the world. He has recorded for several labels, receiving numerous awards. Since 2001, he is professor for percussion and new chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel/Switzerland and since 2014, he is guest teacher at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid. Since 2008, Christian Dierstein is one of the percussion tutors at the Darmstädter Summer Course.
He gave masterclasses in Buenos Aires, Beijing, Berlin, Chicago, Geneva, Los Angeles, Madrid, Moscow, New York City, Oslo, Valencia, Tbilisi among others. Furthermore he is the percussion tutor of the impuls academy in Graz and since 2017 tutor of the Lucerne Festival Academy.
Since 2008 he is one of the percussion tutors of the Darmstadt Summer Course.
