BUILDING A SEA ORGAN

What do we think of when we think of the spaces closest to us and how do they live within our musical language? How do we share them with others. For me, one of my most significant places is Zadar’s Sea Organ, an architectural structure and experimental instrument that lives along Zadar’s coast line. It seamlessly lives within the city’s ecosystem, blending sounds of its pipes producing chords, chatter from passerbys, and waves crashing against the shore.

In this improv-based workshop, we’ll work to build one together, working on different breathing and meditative improvisation exercises, layering sound and speech, and taking time to listen to what’s around us and develop a further presence into our practice. All are welcome, especially those keen to play with sound and shape! Instruments encouraged (though not required!) as well as phones / devices to record or manipulate sound!
