Internal Call for Composers

Participating composers are invited to compose a work for solo accordion, which acknowledges and relates to the inherent vocal qualities of this instrument.

The aim of this workshop is to explore the vocality of the accordion and its relation to the performing accordionist.

2-3 pieces will be workshopped and included in the accordion studio, where they will be coached by accordion tutor Andreas Borregaard. Additionally, composition tutor Cassandra Miller will join as guest for 1-2 group sessions focusing on the connection between physicality and music creation.

The pieces will be premiered by participants of the accordion studio in the studio concert during the Summer Course.

Application

All composers must be registered participants of the Darmstadt Summer Course 2025.

To apply for this workshop, please submit ONE PDF file (LASTNAME_Firstname_AccordionComposition2025.pdf) containing the following:

  • Links to two representative scores with recordings
  • Short CV

and e-mail it by 23 March 2025 to:

accordion-composition@darmstaedter-ferienkurse.de

Andreas Borregaard will select 2-3 composers at the beginning of April, giving the chosen composers approximately three months to compose.

Shortly after the selection, composers and accordionists will be invited to a 2-hour online launch session led by Cassandra Miller.

The works should be submitted by 1 July 2025.
