Dozentin Brass Studio – Posaune
Award-winning performance artist and Juilliard-trained trombonist Abbie Conant is Professor of Trombone at the University of Music in Trossingen, Germany. For over 30 years she and composer William Osborne have collaborated in the creation of a new, highly integrated genre of instrumental music theater, a Gesamtkunst where Ms. Conant combines with equal facility instrumental performance, song, and pantomime in one-woman shows usually combined with surround-sound electronics. She and Osborne have taken these works to about 200 cities with great critical acclaim. Ms. Conant was Solo-Trombone of the Munich Philharmonic for 13 years. She has performed many different genres of music such as duos with shakuhachi, guitar, organ, and harp. She is also active in improvisation, electronics, and experimental music. Ms. Conant is also legendary in the brass world due to her 11 year-long legal battle and eventual victory over egregious gender discrimination in the Munich Philharmonic. Her experiences inspired Malcolm Gladwell’s book Blink, which was on the New York Times Bestseller List for 18 weeks.
