Flute

Claire Chase invites flutists to apply to the 2023 Darmstadt Summer Course who seek to expand and deepen their performance of contemporary solo and chamber music in a collaborative learning environment. Participants are encouraged to present varied repertoire lists that include emergent (post-2000) compositional voices and works that are outside of the existing canon. Our studio will be grounded in a lively exchange of ideas, new repertoire, new performance practices, improvisation, and programming; we will engage in an ongoing discussion about curation, collaboration, and cultural advocacy as part of our work together. A combination of studio classes, group lessons, and chamber music coachings will take place.

Application

Applicants are requested to merge all links and documents into ONE SINGLE PDF file (LASTNAME_Firstname_Flute2023.pdf) and send it by ⏰ 28 February 2023 to:

Required documents:

• 3 contrasting recordings of solo repertoire, including at least one video
• A concise proposed repertoire list (solo and chamber) for Summer 2023 study
• Written responses to these questions: Why do you want to study at Darmstadt this summer? What do you hope to take away from this course? What do you aim to contribute to the Darmstadt community? Optional question: what’s a burning interest (musical or otherwise) that you dream about but have yet to explore?

Applicants will be notified in March 2023. Online booking for the flute studio will be opened afterwards to the chosen participants.
