Hanno Leichtmann: Nouvelle Aventure
In his piece Nouvelle Aventure the Berlin based sound artist Hanno Leichtmann distills his sound material exclusively from the sound archive of the Darmstädter Ferienkurse: concert recordings, lectures and discussions from 70 years of New Music history. The subjectively-chosen sounds were sent through Leichtmann’s unique machinery of voltage-controlled (micro-) loops and recorded. They were then assembled in the studio to form an installation (shown in Darmstadt in 2016, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Ferienkurse), an audio play and a video collage using the Darmstadt photo archive. Leichtmann concentrates on the pure, original sound of the (sonic) archive: he primarily applies traditional parameters of early electronic (reel-to-reel) music, like amplitude, pitch and speed, playback direction, splicing together and cutting, and most of all repetition.
A new version of Hanno Leichtmann’s six-channel installation was supposed to be shown at Radialsystem Berlin in December 2020. Hanno adapted the project to be part of radar – Radialsystem’s online program. This mix and the film will be available until 16 April 2021.
