The bassoon studio – individual and group lessons – is flexible and open to all levels: professionals, amateurs, composers who can play some bassoon, bassoon players from any genre. Participants should bring a selection of works that they would like to discuss and work on in class. All solo, duo and ensemble literature is welcome!

• Solo literature: contemporary, improvisation, classical
• Contemporary ensemble literature for bassoon: tips and tricks for dealing with the technical and musical demands of contemporary music with repertoire that is now established (Ligeti, Xenakis, Schönberg, Rihm, among others)
• Special course areas for technique, sound, posture, mouthpieces
• Workshop/lecture on the existing solo CDs by Johannes Schwarz: development of the new solo works, forms of notation, practicing techniques
• Overview of the existing contemporary solo literature for bassoon in various levels of difficulty, solo, duo, ensemble, with electronics

Participants can get involved in other ensembles and combinations with composers on site, and also take part in concerts and other workshops if wanted/required!

Johannes Schwarz would like to get to know something about the participants in his studio beforehand and asks them to e-mail him (bassoon@darmstaedter-ferienkurse.de) ONE PDF containing the following documents as part of the registration process:

• CV
• A list of the most important works performed from the classical period (solo and ensemble) and contemporary music (solo and ensemble)
• Links to video and/or audio examples (not absolutely necessary, but can be provided on a voluntary basis)
