Malin Bång

Malin Bång’s music is exploring specific subject matters from an angle of physicality, movement and energy. She defines her musical material according to its amount of friction to create a spectrum of actions, ranging from the intimate and barely audible to the harsh and obstinate.

Malin Bång is residing in Göteborg, Sweden and is the composer in residence and a founding member of the Curious Chamber Players. Her works are performed worldwide and some recent projects include the staged works “The Damned and the Saved” for the Mannheim Theatre and the Münchener Biennale, and “I, volcanic”, a co-commission for Folkperan in Stockholm and Theater Transparent in Belgium, the inside piano concerto Mareld for the Wittener Tage, performed by the WDR Orchester and pianist Rei Nakamura. During 2010 she was awarded the Kranichsteiner Stipendienpreis and in 2012 she was invited by the DAAD Berliner Künstlerprogramm for the one year residency in Berlin. Her work splinters of ebullient rebellion has been awarded the Donaeueschinger Tage Orchestra Preis in 2018, and in 2020 the Christ Johnson Prize.

Malin Bång is senior lecturer in composition at the Academy of Music and Drama at the Gothenburg University. She is also a regular visiting professor at academies in Europe, for example in Århus, Copenhagen, Dresden, Köln, Barcelona and Ghent as well as being part of the faculty at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse and Impuls Festival in Graz. Malin Bång is a member of Akademie der Künste in Berlin, as well as the The Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
