Michael Acker
Sound Director

Michael Acker first studied physics at Heidelberg University and holds a degree in sound engineering from the Detmold University of Music. As a violinist, he has played in various international ensembles and orchestras. This wide-ranging experience enables him to combine technical and musical interpretative aspects of contemporary music with live electronics in an ideal way. Since 1999, he has been an internationally successful sound director at the SWR Experimental Studio. He has worked with musicians such as Pierre Boulez, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Chaya Czernowin, Georg Friedrich Haas, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Mark Andre, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Carolin and Jörg Widmann, and many others. As a “musician at the mixing desk,” he is a regular guest at major festivals and on the international stage, for example at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires with Luigi Nono’s Prometeo or at the Vienna State Opera with Johannes Maria Staud’s opera Die Weiden. At the Donaueschingen Music Days alone, he has accompanied more than 50 world premieres as sound director and has an extensive repertoire of live electronic works.
