Nile Koetting
Artist

Which sound is special for you?
All sound can be special – when I choose to make it special.
How do you go about writing for a specific space?
I like to think of sound – or any vibrating material – as an actor in the space. Not every actor needs to be seen or heard, but their presence still matters. Even in a white cube, there are subtle temperatures, textures, and the quiet architecture of feeling. I try to start from that, and imagine: who or what belongs to this space?
What instrument has yet to be invented?
The ear.
Born in Japan in 1989. Nile Koetting works with a variety of formats including installation, light, performance, scenography and sound. His artistic projects explore a new perception of the exchange between material and immaterial, living and non-living beings in a landscape of performative time and space.
