Wolfgang Rihm

Wolfgang Rihm (1952–2024) was a composer in and from Karlsruhe (Germany) and one of the most influential figures in German and international musical life. With over 400 compositions in all genres, he is the most frequently performed composer in Europe, as an author and musicologist he has enriched thinking about music with his proliferating spirit, he has stood up for new music in numerous committees and, above all, has had a lasting effect as a valued teacher of many contemporary composers who have matured an independent voice of their own. Following his death on July 27, 2024, the IMD has compiled a retrospective of the long history of collaboration and friendship between Wolfgang Rihm and the Darmstadt Summer Course.
