Heather Roche
Clarinet Tutor
Born in 1980 in Canada. Referred to as “The Queen of Extended Techniques” on Radio 3, clarinetist and new music specialist Heather Roche appears regularly on concert stages around the world as a soloist and chamber musician. She plays with Apartment House, in a duo with accordionist Eva Zöllner and works regularly with other groups including Riot Ensemble and the LSO. Chamber music and close collaboration with composers are her jam. She has solo CDs on NMC and Métier, and records regularly for the Another Timbre label, currently appearing on over 30 records. Her blog on contemporary clarinet technique receives 90,000 hits a year. She is also the Head of Clarinet at tonebase, and the Reviews Editor at TEMPO. She lives in south-east London with her partner and their cat, Vera.
During the Darmstadt Summer Course 2025, Heather Roche will be clarinet tutor for the first time.
