Johannes Schwarz
Bassoon Tutor
Born in 1970, Johannes Schwarz has been solo bassoonist in the Ensemble Modern since 2003. As a soloist and chamber musician, he covers an extremely broad artistic spectrum, which can also be heard on over 40 CD productions: contemporary solo and ensemble works, classical and baroque music on original instruments through to recordings in the heavy metal field, free improvisations, music theater productions. He is also a sought-after guest in renowned orchestras (WDR, HR), big bands (WDR, HR, Vienna), chamber music formations and free improvisation ensembles.
Teaching assignments in Frankfurt and Stuttgart, from 2013-18 artistic director of the IEMA Frankfurt master’s program. Director of the international chamber music course Klangspuren/Schwaz 2008-22. His digital bassoon sound archive was funded and put online by the Aventis Foundation experimente#digital in 2017. He is currently working on various experimental films for his own projects, for which he performs live with bassoon, tuba and electronic components.
Johannes Schwarz will take over the bassoon studio at the Darmstadt Summer Course for the first time in 2025.
