Lucas Fels

Cello Tutor

Born in 1962 in Lörrach. Lucas Fels is one of the most active and renowned cellists in the field of contemporary music. He studied with Christoph Henkel in Freiburg, with Anner Bijlsma in Amsterdam and with Amadeo Baldovino in Fiesole. In 1985, he initiated the founding of the ensemble recherche and has been a member of the Arditti Quartet London since 2006. As a soloist and ensemble member, he has premiered several hundred works.

In addition to his international concert and teaching activities at numerous colleges and universities, he has been teaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main as Professor of ‘Interpretative Practice and Mediation of New Music’ since 2013.

Lucas Fels has made over 100 CD recordings of solo and chamber music from the 20th and 21st centuries. Between 1998-2004 and since 2010 he has been a tutor at the Darmstadt Summer Course.
