How would you describe the relationship to your instrument ?
An intense open relationship. The double bass is a fantastic musical tool, mostly because of its imperfections. it has a chaotic history, out of the ordinary, littered with metamorphoses. Its trajectory is marked by inventions, transformations, trials and failures of all kinds. The result of a very particular and creative anarchy, the instrumentalist has in hand a wasteland where everything remains to be invented.
But I enjoy exploring other tools as well and come back to the double bass with renewed energy.
How do you handle music’s history ?
As a continuous sonic journey, filled with multiple stations where I happen to stop by. The stations represent so many opportunities for new and old discoveries and mindset shifting. It’s all about personal ties and emotions. And the best is yet to come.
Composition or improvisation?
Both, of course.
