Christian Dierstein
Guest Tutor Percussion

Born in 1965 in Stuttgart. Christian Dierstein studied music with Bernhard Wulff in Freiburg, Gaston Sylvestre in Paris and Wassilios Papadopulus in Mannheim. He has won prizes at numerous competitions and was a scholarship holder of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation and the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. He has been a percussionist with Ensemble Recherche since 1988 and with Trio Accanto with Nic Hodges and Marcus Weiss since 1994. He is intensively involved with non-European music and free improvisation. In the 2010/11 season, he was one of the “Rising Stars” of the Euopean Concert Hall Organization. His solo appearances with various orchestras have taken him all over the world.
Numerous radio and CD recordings as a soloist and with chamber music attest to his skills. He has been a professor of percussion and new chamber music at the Basel University of Music since 2001 and a visiting professor in Madrid since 2014. Numerous courses for percussion, including in Buenos Aires, Berlin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Geneva, Madrid, Moscow, New York, Oslo, Beijing, Valencia, Tbilisi, Winterthur. He has been a percussion teacher at the Darmstadt Summer Course since 2008, a lecturer at the Impuls Courses in Graz since 2011 and a tutor at the Lucerne Academy in 2017.
