Composing for Violin

Internal Call for Composers

Rebecca Saunders and Sarah Saviet lead a workshop for twelve composers and six interested members of the violin studio.

Composers will write a miniature over this period working with the violinists.

A composition should not be prepared beforehand – the emphasis during this week will be on the process of collaboration and creation.

Principal points of focus include:

• Active collaborative exploration of the violin as a sounding body
• Explorations of the potential of single sounds, gestures, and actions
• Notation as communication
• Other methods of communication between composers and performers

A concert presentation of the new violin miniatures is planned for 1 August.

Application

All composers must be registered participants of the Darmstadt Summer Course 2025.

Please submit:

Composers: One PDF with a short CV and links to a cloud containing 2 recent scores and any relevant recordings.

Violinists who would like to participate should indicate their interest in their application to the violin studio.

Please merge all links and documents into ONE SINGLE PDF file (LASTNAME_Firstname_Violin-Composition2025.pdf) and send it by 15 April 2025 to:
